The PEI Screenwriter’s Bootcamp which took place in May at the Haviland Club in Charlottetown was a hit! The energy from the group of seventeen on the last day was a testimonial to a constructive and exhilarating five days.

The workshop instructors for 2013 were Bill Boyle, Tom Shoebridge and Mark Hand. Producers who came to hear pitches were: Cheryl and Harmony Wagner (Periscope Pictures), Mark Sandiford (Beachwalker Films), Gretha Rose (Cellar Door Productions), Donna Davies (Ruby Tree Films), and Marguerite Pigott (Super Channel). Marguerite Pigott also delivered an impressive two-hour session on pitching.   The industry dinner was loads of fun and the lobster meal supplied by Cellar Door Productions was as good as it gets.  Part of the wrap activities included a meal provided by BDO Canada and a motivational talk by Gretha Rose of Cellar Door Productions.

WIFT-AT and Cultural Affairs PEI sponsored an extra workshop on screenwriting facilitated by Bill Boyle which took place during The Island Media Arts Festival and was open to the public.

The Island Media Arts Festival for 2013 is a wrap! And what a great time it was. The festival gathered filmmakers and industry experts from PEI and across the Atlantic Provinces, as well as local audiences, to watch and talk films for four days in the heart of Charlottetown at The Guild. There were panels, parties and screenings. On the final night of the festival at the CBC Gala IMAF’s awards were given out to deserving artists. The Awards for 2013 were:

• The People’s Choice Award – Andrew MacCormack (for ‘Here and Away’)
• The CBC 321 Award – Jason Arsenault and Millefiore Clarkes (for ‘Islands’)
• The William F. White Filmmaker of the Year Award – Millefiore Clarkes
• WIFT-AT Salute Award – Gretha Rose
• F.A.V.E Award (presented by Culture Summerside) – Justin O’Hanley

The amazing annual PEI Screenwriter’s Bootcamp has added on a special workshop open to the public and all levels of screenwriters this year; “The Visual Mindscape of the Screenplay”. Taking place May 24 and 25th to coincide with The Island Media Arts Festival. Train with Hollywood screenwriting guru Bill Boyle!

A joint Photography Exhibition of the works of two IMAC members (Sean Berrigan and Adnan Saciragic) is opening Wednesday May 1st at 7pm at The Gallery at The Guild (corner of Richmond St. and Queen St. Charlottetown).

This exhibit runs until May 31st and will adorn the walls for receptions and parties during the 4th annual Island Media Arts Festival.

Sean’s “Levitas” is a surrealist photo series based around the visual act of levitation and the wonder and beauty of humans doing such feats in their natural environments.

Adnan’s  “I Was There” is a body of work that openly documents his life. The images are a reflection of is time – the events, people and places he has (un) intentionally come across.

The CBC has announced the PEI 321 Award for 2013! The 321 Award will provide $3000 to a winning Producer/Director team from PEI to produce a short film.

Long-standing IMAC member Louise Lalonde won a 2013 WWAVE Award at the Women Making Waves conference in Halifax recently. Women Making Waves is a conference put on by the Atlantic Chapter of Women in Film and Television. Louise Lalonde has contributed greatly to the media arts sector on PEI through many avenues, not the least of which is heading up thePEI Screenwriter’s Bootcamp for seven years running.

Shake those mid-winter blues with an old fashioned BYOM party. That’s BRING YOUR OWN MOVIE. If you have a short film that you’ve made, or something that you’re currently working on that you’d like others to see.. bring it along! DVDs or quicktime files work best.

The evening will entail some food and beverages, some hanging-out and some watching of one another’s films. Come on down and get to know the PEI filmmaking and media arts community.
